4 women injured in unprovoked stabbing at AMC theater near Boston; Suspect arrested

BRAINTREE — A male suspect was arrested Saturday in the stabbing of four girls at an AMC movie theater south of Boston, authorities said. CBS Boston has learned that the same suspect may be responsible for a similar incident at a McDonald’s restaurant in Plymouth.

The Braintree Police Department said a man stabbed four girls inside a theater at the AMC Multiplex in Braintree around 6 p.m. local time. Braintree is located 12 miles south of Boston.

Police said the man entered the multiplex without a ticket, entered the theater and assaulted four girls aged between 9 and 17 without provocation. Police said the girls were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

“It’s so heartbreaking, I’ll be thinking all night about those kids crying coming down the stairs. It’s like they saw a horror movie, not a kid’s movie,” said Mateo Rojas. , who was in the theater at the time of the punch.

An AMC employee who was working at the snack counter during the attack described the suspect as wearing an “oversized trench coat, sunglasses and a long blonde wig.”

The suspect fled in a black SUV, but police said they were able to get his license plate number using video footage and found him in Plymouth after he was allegedly involved in a “similar attack” there. CBS Boston has learned that a second possible attack may have happened at a McDonald’s restaurant around 7 p.m., where a 21-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were reportedly stabbed. Both victims are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said the “crimes appear to be related”.

“A preliminary investigation indicates that the incident may be related to an earlier incident at a movie theater in Braintree that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to four juveniles,” Massachusetts State Police said.

The suspect led Massachusetts State Police on a car chase before crashing in the town of Sandwich, south of Plymouth. He was arrested and is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
