Bonfire memories

Letters to the editor -

Dear Editor:

Concerning Guy Fawkes Night.

Does anyone have concerns for Newfoundland's carbon footprint, let alone their health?

All those bonfires, burning God knows what, containing unknown products, unknown toxins, being released into the air, can't be healthy. Incinerators have government standards and laws to curb uncontrolled substances being released into the environment.

The tradition of Bonfire Night brings me very fond memories of my younger days, stealing bow branches and tires from other buddies, to see who would build the biggest. Eventually, we'd all end up in fisticuffs, make up as friends, join as one huge fire and have a ball! There would be fires all over Bishop's Falls and parties at them all. Memories I hold dear to my heart.

It's something to think about, when the weiners are burning and the cocoa's hot.

Have a great time, safety first and God Bless.
