Canadian Armed Forces training in Fortune Bay this week


About 40 members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be conducting a military training exercise in the vicinity of Fortune Bay and Brunette Island this week.

The Canadian Armed Forces will be conducting Exercise Atlantic Guardian in the vicinity of Fortune Bay and Brunette Island this week.

According to a news release from the Department of National Defence, Exercise Atlantic Guardian is a joint domestic response exercise also involving the RCMP and the provincial Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Exercise participants are conducting road movements from CFS St. John’s to the exercise area today and will be returning on Saturday, the release said.

A Royal Canadian Navy ship and a Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft will be operating in the area.

The release said no weapons training will be conducted during the exercise.
