Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador have more time to remove studded tires from their vehicles. The provincial government has pushed the deadline back from May 1 to May 13.

The provincial government has extended the last day to remove studded tires from vehicles from May 13.

A news release this afternoon stated the decision was made, ”In the interest of public safety and considering recently updated weather forecasts that include freezing rain for many areas of the province.”

Under the Highway Traffic Act, studded tire use is usually allowed between Nov. 1 and April 30.

The minister has the authority, however, to extend the deadline in cases where it is deemed prudent, the release noted.
