Their most recent fundraiser – a Fashion Flashback - was held on April 8th, at Botwood Collegiate to help offset the cost of placing a mural on the Botwood Kinsmen Public Library.
The mural will be painted this summer and the organization is in the process of selecting an artist.
Fashion Flashback – All Dressed Up 2, highlighted fashions from the 1990’s back to the 1920’s.
During the program, there was a procession of 12 little girls in their favourite party dresses.
Following remarks from the president of the Botwood Mural Arts Society, Mike Shainline, and some door prize draws, special guest - Newfoundland model Heidi Kean –made an appearance. Her mom, Jill, is originally from Botwood and her grandparents and other family still live here.
Kean made three appearances throughout the evening wearing clothing from runway competitions and commercial castings. She was also interviewed by fundraising committee member, Colleen Dalley, so that the audience would get a chance to know more about her. Kean spent last summer in Tokyo, Japan with world top models and will be attending a runway competition next month in Toronto, ON..
As the show progressed, narrators told the story behind the fashions as the models for each decade proceeded to the stage – accompanied by piano music suited to the decade.
Throughout the evening, Christopher Seymour, a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Choir, performed.
The event ended with a lunch donated by the church groups of Botwood and surrounding areas.
Organizers noted the support of the ladies group of the St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church who generously contributed to the lunch, but due to an oversight, were left off the donations list.
This event was well attended and organizers thanked everyone who helped make this show a huge success.
The Botwood Mural Arts Society is also excited to announce that the 11th Global Conference in 2018 will be held in Botwood. For more information, visit botwoodmuralarts.ca.
