Two culprits made away with what police are assuming is a large quantity of prescription drugs during an early morning break-in at Shopper’s Drug Mart in Botwood.

Const. Mark Ricketts with the Grand Falls-Windsor district RCMP said they responded to the call around 5:45 on Wednesday morning. The unknown male suspects appear to have gained entry to the drug store by smashing a window. Police are reviewing surveillance of the break-in to try and identify the two subjects, who were wearing masks at the time of the break in.

Const. Ricketts said theft of prescription medication, specifically narcotic painkillers, has been an ongoing issue across the province, he said there seems to be more of it happening in the central region in the past few months.

“We’ve had quite a few in central, in the last six months we’ve had a number of pharmacy break-ins from the Triton and Robert’s Arm area through Glovertown,” he said. “Prescription drugs seem to be what they want.”

The RCMP encourage anyone who may have information regarding this to contact the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP at 489-2121.  The public can also report and provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
