Nominations for the East Coast Music Awards were announced Monday, with 20 nominees from Newfoundland and Labrador. Amelia Curran leads the pack for the province with three nominations for her album, “Watershed”.
Now in its 30th year, the 2018 ECMAs will be hosted by comedian Jonathan Torrens and broadcast live from Scotiabank Centre in Halifax on May 3.
“This year's nominees include well-established East Coast acts and exciting newcomers, which reflects not only our rich history of the past 30 years but also the direction our music is taking in the future," said ECMA Executive Director Andy McLean.
The province has two nominees up for Jazz Recording of the Year: Heather Bambrick’s, “You’ll Never Know”, and Florian Hoefner’s “Coldwater Stories”.
Other nominees from Newfoundland and Labrador include: Jason Benoit, Matthew Byrne, Duo Concertante, Earle & Coffin, Carolina East, Informants, Rozalind MacPhail, Ouroboros, and Andrew Staniland.
The province also garnered several industry nominations. The popular Lawnya Vawnya festival is up for Event of the Year, Rock Eden is nominated for Media Outlet, Chris Kirby for Producer, and The Ship Pub for Venue. There are two people nominated for Graphic/Media Artist of the Year: Jud Haynes and Krista Power.
Overall at the ECMAs, Rose Cousins leads the pack with eight nominations, while Jenn Grant follows with six. Ria Mae, KINLEY, and Joel Plaskett each garnered four.
Fans have a say for some of the awards. Voting is now open for the Fans’ Choice Awards until March 16, and people can cast their votes online at http://thechronicleherald.ca/ecma.
