This week I’m honoured to present a Food Dude special: Getting Grilled with the Food Dude, where I talk to local foodies about some of their favorite recipes and cooking techniques.
The first local foodie to get grilled would like to remain anonymous so I’ll call her Bella.
Food Dude: Hello, Bella.
Bella: Hello, Food Dude. Can I call you Food Dude?
FD: My love, you can call me anything you want.
FD: Bella, this recipe you’ve mentioned has some interesting facts about it and I’m dying to know what it is.
Bella: I was at work and a customer wanted a peanut butter shake and a strawberry shake. It was that busy, I ended up making the strawberry shake first and had to help with another order.
When I got back I accidently used the same full glass to make the peanut butter one, thinking he already gotten the first one and the one in front of me was the one I had already started.
I handed it to the customer and he just stared at me.
FD: He was expecting the other milkshake too. Did he get mad?
Bella: No, he never got mad, he was a good customer and he knew how busy we were, so he understood we were doing our best to please everyone at once.
FD: Good customers are a lifesaver in the food industry. It’s a good thing he wasn’t allergic to peanut butter then, eh?
Bella: (giggles) I would have been hung! They should have done peanut butter shakes in a separate machine.
Anyway, when the rush was done he was still there looking at me, so I asked him if he had another order. He told me about the mix-up then but said not to worry because the one I gave him was that good, he posted it on Instagram and now his wife and kids wanted it too.
FD: That’s awesome! So basically, you ended up making a milkshake version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich by accident?
Bella: Yes, exactly! But when my boss found out he let me go because he thought I was just handing out random made-up milkshakes to people and he wouldn’t let me explain. He didn’t really like me to begin with.
FD: I know that feeling. Same happened to me once or twice when a boss didn’t like me. I hope you didn’t let it get you down.
Bella: No, sir. Haters gonna hate.
Bella’s PB & J Milkshake
- 3 large scoops strawberry ice cream
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp strawberry jam
- 2.5 cups whole milk
- ¼ cup strawberries
- 1 dollop whipped cream (cool whip)
- In a food processor or blender, blend all ingredients except whipped cream until smooth.
- Pour and top with whipped cream.
- Add 1 more scoop of ice cream scoop for thicker shakes and a half cup more milk for thinner shakes.
I tried this milkshake recipe just now and it has just replaced chocolate rum milkshake as my new personal favourite.
It’s an absolutely flawless blend of flavours! Well done, Bella!
