FOGO ISLAND, NL – Fogo Island Inn is hosting an evening of art and literature this Sunday in honour of Gerald Squires.
Dragland, a prolific and critically acclaimed author, released “Gerald Squires” this year on Pedlar Press.
The book takes a retrospective look at Squires’ sixty years of creation through a variety of media and features full-colour reproductions of some of his most significant works.
It was conceived to coincide with a retrospective exhibition of Squires’ work that opened at The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery in St John's in May.
Squires, who died in 2015, was born on Change Islands and received artistic training in Toronto and Mexico before returning to Newfoundland. His works touch on a variety of topics, from religious figures to the dispersal and fragmentation of traditional Newfoundland culture.
The event at Fogo Island Inn begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception followed by Dragland’s presentation of selected readings supported by projections of some of Squires’ most renown artistic pieces. Afterward there will be a question-and-answer session and book signing.
It is open to guests of Fogo Island Inn as well as members of the community.
