Two theatre companies are launching versions of hit Broadway musical "Come From Away" across Canada and the United States in 2018.

Can’t make it to Broadway to see “Come From Away”?

There’s good news: the Tony Award-winning musical could soon be available at a theatre near you.

Following the musical’s popularity, two theatre companies will be launching a new version of the play across Canada and the United States.

Michael Rubinoff, producer of the original hit Broadway production, confirmed the news via email with the Beacon.

Rubinoff highlighted that these new productions will have a separate cast from the Broadway edition.

One company will play a strictly limited four-week stint, beginning Jan. 4, 2018 in Winnipeg. The performances will be held at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.

From there, the play will move to Toronto and is set to perform at the Royal Alexandra Thetare as a part of the 2017-2018 Mirvish Subscription Season. Performances will begin on Feb. 13, 2018.

Furthermore, a second company will launch a North American tour, beginning at Seattle’s Fifth Avenue Theatre in October 2018. The tour will feature stops across the United States and Canada.

David Armstrong, the artistic director for the Fifth Avenue Theatre, said that he was honoured to launch a North American tour for “Come From Away.”

Irene Sankoff and David Hein, a husband and wife duo, originally created the “Come From Away” show that took Broadway by storm.

Junkyard Dog Productions, one of the new theatre companies, cited Sankoff and Hein as inspiration.

“From the first time we saw Irene and David’s telling of this extraordinary true story, we were passionate to share this tale of hope and humanity with as many people as possible,” said the producers via email.

Additional dates and casting have yet to be announced.
