West Coast Senior Hockey League Grand Falls-Windsor in command of standings

This past weekend marked a third of the way through the regular season schedule for the West Coast Senior Hockey League and the Cataracts are perched atop the league with a 7-1-0 record after defeating the Corner Brook Royals twice this past weekend by 4-2 and 8-1 margins.

"We are very pleased with where we sit in the standings," said Head Coach Paul Galvine. "There have been times when we haven't been fortunate to be in first place, but we know the real season happens after Christmas."

The Cats have continued their winning ways with bodies rotating in and out of the line-up due to injury or work commitments.

"Curlew has carried us through the last few games," said Glavine. "The players we have will step up and fill the voids however they can."

For the Cataracts, it was a smooth transition readjusting the lines as it is the nature of the business.

"We have had to deal with switching lines the whole season," said Assistant Coach Brian Gruchy.

"We had Philpott here for two weeks than out for work. We have been without Ryan Delaney before because of work commitments. Every game it seems like we have had to juggle something."

That is where the depth the organization was busy gathering in the off season is paying off.

"It has been a treat to have the depth we have missing the key guys we are," said Glavine.

Import forward Matt Quinn has had successful surgery on his face after being struck with a puck. A plate was put in over his entire cheekbone.

Cataracts General Manager, Dave Canning said Quinn wants to come back when he is fully recovered, but it is expected to be at least January before that is considered. With the prolonged roster space in Quinn's absence, the Cats have added Roberto Bissonnette to their line-up.
