Transcontinental announces partnership
Publisher to provide local, province-wide coverage
In just a little over a month athletes from all over the province will converge in Grand Falls -Windsor for the 2010 NL Winter Games. As preparations continue and excitement builds in anticipation of the event, so does support from local organizations and businesses.
Transcontinental Media, publisher of two daily and 14 community newspapers throughout the province including the Advertiser, made a commitment of $30,000 on Wednesday to become one of the Winter Games' biggest sponsors. (more)

Twelve new charges against local man
Bail hearing scheduled for later this month
A Grand Falls-Windsor man has waived his right to a bail hearing until later this month.
Glenn Alvin Scott Budgell, 33, formerly of Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor, had previously been charged with assault causing bodily harm, failing to provide the necessities of life and two additional counts of assault after a joint investigation by RCMP and Child, Youth and Family Services.
A dozen more charges were laid against Mr. Budgell on Wednesday morning, bringing the total to 16.
They include four counts of assault with a weapon, one count of aggravated assault, one count of assault, one count of uttering threats and five charges of breach of probation. (more)
