Oliver Hynes, left, and Eric Bourden of Bayview have hoisted up new flags at their memorial to Bayview men who served in both World Wars. The sign was first put in place late last year and includes 25 names. Many served in the Royal Navy and the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit. One name on the list, Bennett Gillard, served in both the First World War and in the forestry unit in the Second World War. Bourden says it took over two years of research to collect the names. The former school bus driver was inspired to tackle the project after speaking with a student who had asked about how many men from Bayview had served in the war.
