Grand Falls-Windsor to host first annual tree trimming, lighting at Gorge Park

GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – A Christmas tradition is being created in Grand Falls-Windsor at the new Gorge Park.
To highlight the beauty of the town’s newest park, the town will host a tree trimming and lighting event on Sun. Dec. 10 from 6- 8p.m.

“We want to bring awareness about our beautiful park,” said Coun. Rod Bennett.

Residents are asked to bring an ornament to hang on a tree that will be used every year. The decoration doesn’t have to be expensive – it can even be homemade, Bennett said.
“We’ll keep the ornament there all through Christmas and whatever ornaments are left – we can’t guarantee that they’ll still be there – we’ll take everything down and pack it all up for our second annual next year.”

The park will also be lit up with Christmas lights along the boardwalk and gazebo. There will be hot chocolate and chili, with a vegetarian option, served around a campfire.
You can also rock around the Christmas tree while the Salvation Army Band and Off the Cuff Community Choir play some holiday tunes.

“It’s going to be a huge community event – we’re hoping that as many people as possible are going to show up,” Bennett added.
