Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador (RNL) is partnering with the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging to host two Balls, Bands and Balance workshops next month.
Dawn Sharpe, President of RNL, says the three-hour workshop shows fitness leaders various ways to enhance the strength, balance and flexibility portions of their existing programs with the use of training aids.
“It will include exercise suggestions appropriate for all functional mobility levels of older adults,” explains Tina Auchinleck-Ryan, Physical Activity Advisory Committee Chair, in a press release.
Auchinleck-Ryan adds, “Recreation is a vital part of community health and fitness. As part of Recreation Newfoundland and Labradors new Find Your Fit! Campaign we feel it is crucial to provide leaders in the province with opportunities to learn ways to engage their groups in physical activity.”
One of the workshops is set for Gander on Tuesday, Mar. 18, 6-9 p.m.
Registration will include a small exercise ball, detailed exercise handouts and a certificate of completion.
“I would like to encourage all leaders with an interest in programing for older adults to register for this workshop. It is important to learn how to adapt an exercise routine to fit the needs of your aging population” Sharpe says.
The deadline for registration is Friday, March 7.
