The Fitzgerald Academy Falcons boys’ 2A volleyball team won the provincial qualifying banner at a tournament hosted by Bay d’Espoir Academy on November 19. The Fitzgerald Falcons boys’ senior volley ball team were flying high on November 19 as they triumphed over the Bay d’Espoir Academy Predators to win the right to play in they 2A provincial championship that will be held in La Scie in early December.
The tournament, hosted by Bay d’Espoir Academy, had lots of excitement and the scores were close. The Fitzgerald Falcons and the Bay d’Espoir Predators had to play the best 2 out of 3 games for the right to compete in the boys’ provincial championship.
The championship match was a close contest and both teams played hard to win the qualifying banner.
In the final match, the Falcons won the first game by a score of 25 to 13. The Predators rebounded, however, and were determined not to go away easily as they won the second game 25 to 19.
The third and final game was extremely exciting as both teams had their game faces on and were out to win the match. However, in the end the Falcons came through with their determination and strong team play. They won the final game and the qualifying banner on their 15 to 11 win.
Ryan Younge, player with the Bay d’Espoir Predators, got the sportsmanship award.
Nathan Gidge, coach for Bay d’Espoir Predators stated how close the games were throughout the tournament and the excitement was high.
Tanya Dominx, the Falcons’ coach, was very proud of her boys for such a great job.
“By winning this tournament, the boys will move on to the provincials, which will be held in La Scie during the first week off December.
" Overall the boys played an awesome tournament,” stated Dominx. “You can tell both teams really wanted to win, but unfortunately only one team could take away the gold. Hats off to the boys from Bay d' Espoir, they gave our boys a run for their money.
“The Bay d’ Espoir team has a lot of potential volleyball players, and best of luck to them next year. I couldn't be more proud of the senior team from Fitzgerald. They really worked hard this year, and I really have faith in them that they will do great at the provincials in La Scie.”
