Botwood and Grand Falls-Windsor also participated in the Central Summer Games.
In the spirit of the Most Sportsmanlike Team award the Botwood and Springdale teams shared the honour for their strong team play throughout the Games.
“We had a great time. Springdale did a great job hosting the games,” said Sarah Kelly, co-ordinator for the Grand Falls-Windsor summer program. “Our teams did well – our under-13 team won some games and played in a few championships, so I was proud of them. They have played together for a few years now, so they were very excited.”
Bishop’s Falls will play host for the 2011 Games and although Greene may not hold the same position next year, it was an eye-opening experience for her.
“It was beneficial to me, if I’m not in this position next year, I would definitely volunteer,” said Greene. “It is something that can bring tourists to our community and different businesses should get involved with the Summer Games. Going into next summer whoever goes into this position they have a good group of children. They represented Bishop’s Falls well. I have to thank our volunteer Kevin Hynes, the summer students who did a fabulous job coaching, and it was great to have parents travel to Springdale and support their children.”
