Dear Editor,
On Tuesday, June 12, the media announced that Grand Falls-Windsor Mayor Allan Hawkins was now on the board of directors of Nalcor.
As a taxpayer and citizen, I have a few questions that I would like answered.
First of all, isn’t this a conflict of interest, since he is the mayor? Second, will the mayor be vocal for the town when it comes to ask for taxes from the hydro? As you all know, when you are on these boards, you do what they say, not what you think.
A few years back when Mayor Hawkins was a councillor, he was given a job with the former call center and this was questioned then. As we all know, nothing happened and I expect the same this time.
It is hard to get a councillor in this town to speak out about what’s going on like this, but they are all tarred with the same brush, so I don’t expect a miracle. Someone on council should ask/tell the Mayor he has two choices: resign from council, or the board of directors of Nalcor.
I won’t hold my breath because to do this one must have testicles and this is lacking on council.
