Recently, I have heard and read about the situation of the Mill and it's Workers in Grand Falls. When travelling in Nfld. in July, I talked to the Mill workers at length. I also remember back in the 70's when the Mill employed around 3,000 workers, and I was recently told there were about 500 (around that mark) left in the mill now. I found this devastating, and just difficult to believe. Even though, Technology is a factor here, I find it difficult to understand why more can't be done to keep this mill in Operation, as Abitibi exports paper all over the World. These men who have young families need the Mill in Operation more than ever now, and I feel something more should be done for these families whose lives depend on it. Without the Mill, what will happen to this beautiful town of Grand Falls, where I grew up. Please do something, and do it now, before these families are left behind, and may have no choice but to uproot elsewhere in the World.

This is something very important for all to keep in Mind. Back in the 60's and 70's, when the employees at the Paper Mill in Grand Falls received their pay cheque, a certain percentage of their pay was deducted, and went towards that Hospital in Grand Falls, now standing, but at that time, the money went into the building fund for Equipment, new technology, etc. If the Mill shuts down anytime soon, I will come down personally, and let everbody know how hard the millworkers worked 24x7 to have their Hospital which is now standing up there. I was told this by many retirees, and it is something important we should all keep in mind. A little lesson for the Politicians just in case they did not know this fact or had forgotten.
