The Exploits Valley Salmon Festival will be held July 14-18 with the main concert happening July 16 on Centennial Field
Grand Falls-Windsor Town Council voted at Tuesday regular meeting to accept a recommendation from a Committee of the Whole meeting on Feb. 15 that the Salmon Festival weekend will be July 14-18.
Grand Falls-Windsor Day is set for July 18.
Mayor Barry Manuel said that there have been a number of questions of late as to whether or not there would even be a concert.
“There is going to be a concert on July 16…but significantly downsized,” the mayor said.
He added that the show lineup should come “within the next month.”
The Salmon Festival Concert, once one of the cornerstones of the province’s summer entertainment schedule, has been much maligned of late with significant hits to the show’s reputation and financial performance.
“We’re looking forward to keeping it alive and getting back to our roots,” Mayor Manuel continued. “It’s been a successful show for 30 years and we’re going to forge ahead and make it the best it can be.”
Coun. Tom Pinsent said he too is looking forward to what this year’s show will offer.
“It’s not going to be a million dollar show but we have the opportunity to make it a community event,” he said. “It doesn’t have to be a provincial event.”
