A 68-year-old Woody Point man entered not guilty pleas to charges related to illegally fishing for salmon in the area of Winterhouse Brook.
John Roberts appeared on provincial court in Corner Brook on Tuesday on the four charges alleged to have occurred on June 17, 2014 — unlawfully catching and retaining Atlantic salmon, possession of Atlantic salmon which measured 63 centimetres or more in length, possession of Atlantic salmon that was not properly tagged and possession of Atlantic salmon which had been caught in contravention of the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery Regulations.
Roberts represented himself during the court proceedings and his trial on the charges was set for Aug. 12 in Rocky Harbour.
Meanwhile, Roberts is also listed as co-accused in another fishing violation matter currently before the court.
He’s charged along with Todd Young and 3Ts Limited with six counts of failing to comply with the condition of a licence, making a false or misleading statement to an authority designated by a fishery officer, and while being employed as an observer, provided false information in the course of his duties.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between October and December 2010 in Woody Point.
Young is the owner of 3Ts and was a regular on season one of Discovery Channel’s “Cold Water Cowboys.”
The trial on those charges is scheduled to resume in May.
