The town of Grand Falls-Windsor, family, friends and the arts community are mourning the loss of a well-known local figure.

Mary McCormick, a leader in the local music and performing arts scene, passed away Dec. 30 at 101.
Mary McCormick passed away Dec. 30 at Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor. She was 101.
Music was a big part of her life and she played the piano for everybody at her 100th birthday celebration. She will also be remembered by many for having sang or played the piano at their wedding.
Her artistic talents earned her recognition locally, and from afar.
For many years she was a member of the Northcliffe Drama Club, and was honoured by the Newfoundland Drama Society with a Life Membership in the Society.
She had many friends in the theater community and is remembered for her many performances in local plays and on the road with the Northcliffe Drama group. She also shared the stage with her good friend Gordon Pinsent in the CBC TV series “Up At Ours”.
The funeral mass is scheduled for Sat., Jan. 3, at 11 am at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Grand Falls-Windsor.
