Five people sent to hospital
Members of the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP detachment responded to two serious vehicle collisions near Badger over the weekend.
On Sunday the RCMP, as well as the Grand Falls-Windsor and Badger Fire Departments, responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover, just west of Badger on the Trans-Canada Highway. A 63-year-old female was removed from a burning vehicle and transported to hospital.
Constable Ian Dollimount with the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP confirmed that three men, all employed by the Gagetown, NB, Canadian Forces Base, extracted the woman from the burning wreckage. Another bystander happened to be a doctor and stayed with the woman until an ambulance arrived.
The investigation into this collision is still ongoing. Police were unable to provide any information about the woman’s condition.
The previous day, July 26, police were called to the scene of a collision where a vehicle had collided with a moose on the TCH west of Badger. All four occupants of the vehicle were transported to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, two with severe head injuries.
