Tens of thousands converge on Grand Falls-Windsor for Salmon Festival

Topics :
Aerosmith , Grand Falls-Windsor

It was an electric evening on Centennial Field in Grand Falls-Windsor on Saturday, with all the flashy outfits, glitzy scarves and jeweled microphones only Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler can offer. And if the reaction of the crowd was any indication – the concert was an outstanding success.

Sunny, blue skies were the backdrop for the 2012 Freshwater Suzuki Salmon Festival mega concert, attracting tens of thousands of concertgoers. Hundreds of other fans lined streets and hillsides around the field.

Aerosmith didn't disappoint, keeping crowds singing along to some of their most famous hits; Love in an Elevator, Train Kept a Rollin', Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, Dream On, and many others.

See tomorrow's edition of the Advertiser for more, and pick up Thursday's edition for full photo coverage from the field.

Check back to www.gfwadvertiser.ca tomorrow for video from the concert.

Aerosmith were amazing!! We loved the concert!! Now for the bad news: the organization of the VIP area for families with children under the age of 19 was absolutely horifying!! When we first got there we were told that our girls would have to go into this little fenced area that was off in the corner of the VIP area all together. In my opinion they were trying to herd our children into this area just like they were a bunch of sheep. A group of us parents started to kick up a fuss to be able to have the children be able to watch the concert up by the stage like the rest of the people that paid $199 for their tickets. We paid $199 per ticket to be able to enjoy the "perks" of being in the VIP area, then to be told that our children are only allowed in a certain area, this was discrimination and I feel that we should get a portion of their money back. They couldn't even go and get their own food or drinks. How do you call that being treated like a "VIP"? After a my husband tracked down the mayor, he finally convinced them to change things, lol. They made an area in front of the stage that was around 5 feet wide. Even a young girl in a wheelchair was made to watch from there, ABSOLUTELY RIDCULOUS!! These promotors should be ashamed of how they treated our children. They certainly didn't mind taking their $199 + tax for each of their tickets!! I am disgusted that we paid $900 for four of us as a family to enjoy this concert but had to watch it in two different areas. In order to let more children in the "small area", we went right behind the area so that we could try and be as close together as we could. POOR ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS BY THE PROMOTORS. Thank you Pam Russell-Mayo

lets not forget taxpayers who don't attend this kind of garbage. they have a right to walk the streets without being harassed by a bunch of drunken punks who can' handle their drink, so if the rcmp and town police are not too busy @ the local tim hortons, then maybe they can apply the law.
