A fire that broke out in a Grand Falls-Windsor home has claimed the life of at least one person, police have confirmed.
According to a release from the Grand Falls-Windsor District RCMP, police and fire crews were called to the house on Main Street West Extension around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
By late morning, there will still several police cars and fire trucks at the scene and the area had been cordoned off. The structure did not appear to have any external fire damage.
About 20 metres down the road, police officers were speaking with several people.
Neighbours on the scene said they were unsure of the whereabouts of the homeowners, and were attempting to contact them. A male neighbour said he had reason to believe they were out of town.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim, the cause of the fire, or if there was anyone else in the house when the blaze occurred.
As of press time, there were no other details available.
