The Advertiser checked in with fire crews this morning for updates on a forest fire that has been burning near Buchans since Wednesday.
Provincial Forest Fire Duty Officer Eric Young said there was little change in the roughly one by four square kilometer fire overnight.
"The fire in Buchans is still ongoing and we have people and resources put on it this morning," he said. "The boundary changed a little bit yesterday, but not significantly. The winds changed on us a bit so there was a bit of back burn to the fire, but for the most part the fire is holding its own."
He added that while the blaze has not gotten any smaller, they're hoping to make some progress on it today.
Young said there were two more instances of forest fires on the island yesterday, one on the Avalon Peninsula and a small one near Gander, he said both have been mostly contained.
