Kent Building Supplies is building its newest location in Grand Falls-Windsor.

The Town announced plans for the development on Thursday, and in no time, the building lot on Duggan Street was fenced off, ready for construction. The new store will be located between Cohen's Home Furnishings and Thruway Recreation.

Grand Falls-Windsor Deputy Mayor Anne Blackmore said the project would see the construction of a 50,000 square foot store.

Magna of St. John's won the contract.

"The town is very excited about this," the deputy mayor said. "We've been on pins and needles waiting to announce this...we were waiting for the contracts to be awarded for the construction. Once we got the go-ahead...we sent out our release."

And according to Deputy Mayor Blackmore, plans are to have shoppers through the doors sooner rather than later.

"I think they're hoping (to open) as soon as possible," she said. "Once they have all their workers and everything set in place, as soon as they get it up, it will be open."

The Town had been working on the project over recent months, and hopes to see more development move into Grand Falls-Windsor in future.

"We're really excited about this. We feel that this will hopefully be the start of things to come in the future for the retail business...we're hoping to continue to offer as many services as we can for this area...we hope to be 'perfectly centered' for our retailers."

In a news release from the Town of Grand Falls-Windor, the General Manager of Kent, Stew Valcour, said his company was "very much looking forward to becoming part of the community."

I visited the Kent building supplies in grandfalls-windsor, I have to say the customer service in this store is unbelieveable the workers are so friendly. I had a dealing with Sheila in seasonal she was very helpful, that lady on customer service Lana she was very friendly, and the lady on the kent card table Joanna she tried to convince me to get a kent card but i didnt want one. I think these ladies deserves a raise! they are amazing at their jobs! great job ladies!!

I just hope once they have been operating for awhile their staff is as happy as their opening day, unlike Gander whose staff appear undersized, overwhelmed and frustrated long after the balloons and excitement faded. Customer service gives you a sigh and look as you approach the counter then tell you how their day has been. Still glad to see a business come to town but if council wants a gold mine opportunity here I would bend backwards to get a Costco in this town before somewhere else attracts it. You'll then have to get that extra hotel for the traffic from western.

how can ppl be happy making underpaid wages as the mainland run companies take over this province and treat local ppl as dirt ... its everywhere ... greed and no fair pay to the workers who actually do the work...

I hope the employees of this new store will maintain their upbeat customer service longer than the Gander workers. Out there they now seem stressed, understaffed and over tasked which I feel is typical of the Irving group of companies.
