"Christmas in Paris" - a romantic's dream.

In the case of the Exploits branch of the Canadian Cancer Society, the image is one that evokes possibilities.

Mention Paris and one thinks of the City of Light, the Eiffel Tower, the French Riviera, urbane European gamblers, great cuisine and cool jazz.

All will come together at the Royal Canadian Legion on Queen Street on Friday, Nov. 27 when the Cancer Society presents its annual fundraiser gala.

The theme for this year, as one can guess, is one that suggests France, something that co-ordinator Penny Pardy says should attract people to an event that's been enjoying high popularity over the past few years.

"First of all, we are going to try and recreate the famous Champs-ElysÉe in Paris," said Ms. Pardy. "The patrons of the event will be indoors, but we'll be trying to create an outdoor setting."

The gala starts with cocktails at 6 p.m; the "Parisiens" (those attending the gala) will sit for dinner at 7 p.m. for "nice French cuisine," courtesy of Chef Allan Milley and his staff.

The menu includes chateaubriand, one of the most expensive cuts of beef, but Ms. Pardy says she doesn't want to give all the secrets away. Throughout the evening, there will be raffles, a silent auction, Christmas tree auctions, and games of chance.

But after the French-twist meal, the highlight of the night will be the star performers: the Exploits Jazz Band.

"We have some surprises, but we certainly don't want to give those out," she added.
