It was the kind of talent that probably made some older parents and relatives wonder why their school didn’t have this activity when they were growing up.
With origami trees, funky masks, walls of arts, guest Newfoundland folk musicians and even a robot shooting tennis balls at an unsuspecting teacher, Botwood’s two-day annual fine arts festival May 4-5 was truly a celebration of creativity.
Parents, friends and relatives enjoyed students’ art work and writing displayed in the school gym and library; they were also treated to an evening featuring entertainment by folk musicians Jim Payne and Fergus O’Byrne from “A Crowd of Bold Sharemen.” As well, some of the students who had staged “Then The Rains Came” at the regional high school drama festival reenacted the play again, for the benefit of the audience who probably didn’t see it the first time around.
