Central Newfoundland is enjoying warm weather, but the hot conditions also mean a higher forest fire index. That was the case near Buchans on Wednesday, as crews from the Department of Forestry responded to a blaze in the region. A water bomber dropped a load on the fire, and ground crews were also on the job trying to keep things under control. The fire is estimated to be half a square kilometer, and of last report was not burning in an area of heavy timber. According to a forestry official, Eric Earle, no values were at risk, such as cabins. As of last report, the cause of the fire is not known.
